Safety Light Curtains are opto-electronic presence sensing safety devices that detect the presence of an object in the light curtain’s sensing field. Most commonly used in machine guarding applications to detect the presence of a person’s finger, hand, limb or whole body. Also known as AOPDs (Active Opto-electronic Protective Devices), light curtains offer optimal safety. They are ideally suited for applications where personnel need frequent and easy access to a point of operation hazard.
Our Area Access Control (AAC) Single Beam sensors provide whole-body access detection for hazardous areas. The single beam is a 24V DC through-beam opto-electronic safety switch.
Our Perimeter Access Control (PAC) Type 4 GuardShield™ Light Curtains are multiple beam, short range safety light curtains that provide access detection at machine entry points. You can also use the GuardShield PAC in perimeter guarding applications as an optoelectronic fence where the perimeter distance does not exceed 16 meters. We also offer optional integrated laser alignment systems, or an integrated laser alignment system and connectivity to ArmorBlock® Guard I/O™.
Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 2 GuardShield™ Safety Light Curtains are a new addition to our portfolio of opto-electronic safety devices. The Type 2 designation means that this particular safety light curtain meets a lesser requirement for performance under fault conditions than the GuardShield Type 4. As a result, the GuardShield Type 2 safety light curtain can only be applied in applications where a formal risk assessment has determined that a Type 2 device is sufficient to meet the level of risk posed by the hazard.
Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 4 ArmorBlock® Guard I/O™ Connectivity Light Curtains have a Class I, eye safe, integrated laser alignment system and connectivity to ArmorBlock Guard I/O. The receiver of these light curtains has a five-pin M12 quick-disconnect connector wired to connect to the 1732DS ArmorBlock I/O module, allowing the GuardShield™ OSSDs to operate over a DeviceNet™ Safe network.
Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 4 Cascadable Light Curtains are standard GuardShield™ safety light curtains in 14 mm and 30 mm resolutions with additional M12 connectors located on top of each curtain. The connector on the top of the safety light curtains allows the interconnection of up to a total of three pairs of GuardShield safety light curtains with a common pair of OSSDs.
Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 4 Integrated Laser Alignment System Light Curtains have an integrated laser alignment system consisting of a Class I, eye safe, constantly powered laser located in the top of the GuardShield™ transmitter and at the bottom of the GuardShield receiver. There are targets located across from each laser that help facilitate alignment of the light curtains when the laser is emitting visible light.
Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 4 Remote Teach Light Curtains provide a remote means of changing a fixed blanking configuration within the GuardShield™ safety light curtain. This keyswitch box eliminates the need to open the GuardShield receiver door and perform the Teach function. The three-position key switch simulates the opening of the GuardShield receiver door, teaching the GuardShield light curtain the new fixed blanking area, closing the door and returning to the run mode of operation.
Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 4 Standard Light Curtains are self-contained, two-box, safety light curtains with DIP-switch selectable operating modes. They are available in both 14 mm and 30 mm resolutions. DIP-switch settings select the modes of operation such as fixed and floating blanking, beam coding, start/restart interlock, external device monitoring (EDM), and machine test signal. The GuardShield™ is made of torsionally rigid, extruded aluminum, with a polyurethane powder-coated housing, and is rated IP65.

Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 4 Micro 400 Light Curtains are economical three-box safety light curtains in a small housing. Designed for use in benign industrial environments (IP54), this light-duty system is targeted to the semi-conductor, micro electronic and small assembly machine markets. We also offer these light curtains in cascadable configurations and in IP69K enclosures. The Micro 400 requires a dedicated controller such as the MSR41 for ON/OFF applications or the MSR42 for advanced safety functionality.
Our Point of Operation Control (POC) Type 4 Safe 4 Light Curtains are economical two-box safety light curtains with ON/OFF functionality. These basic, guard-only operating mode safety light curtains have an integrated laser alignment system to simplify the alignment of each pair of light curtains. Visible laser beams are activated by touching the laser at the finger symbol on the front face of the light curtains.
