SLC 500 Communications

Bulletin 1747 SLC™ 500 Communication Interface Modules let you add another communication port to the SLC 500 controller. This adds network capability beyond the available on-board ports. Some modules provide an interface between a port on the controller and another communication link with a different protocol. Other modules communicate with the SLC processor over the system backplane.

  • DH-485/DF1 communication interface module interfaces the DH-485 port on an SLC™ controller to an RS-232 link
  • ControlNet™ RS-232 communication interface module interfaces the RS-232 port on an SLC controller to a ControlNet link
  • Direct communication module lets the local SLC controller communicate with a supervisory controller across a Universal Remote I/O link
  • Scanner modules communicate with the controller across the backplane and scan I/O across ControlNet, DeviceNet™, or Universal Remote I/O links
  • SLC BASIC modules provide three additional communication ports and run user-written BASIC and C programs
  • SCANport communication module provides a high-speed interface between an SLC controller and up to three SCANport-enabled products
  • RS-232/DF1 port splitter modules let one full-duplex communication port on a controller support simultaneous connection with two external devices
  • Advanced Interface Converter (AIC+) module (1761-NET-AIC) lets you connect two RS-232 devices to a DH-485 network

The controllers and modules you select, along with your network configuration, determine what additional software packages you need to configure and program your system. Additional required software may include RSNetWorx network configuration software and RSLinx communication software.
