SMC-50 Family Broadens with Addition of Frames C and D

Frames C and D expand the line of SMC™-50 Soft Starters to provide a current range up to 520 A and 17 start and stop modes. These soft starters offer three slow-speed modes and are scalable for light- and heavy-duty industries. They support applications such as pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors, and high intertia loads. Features include:

  • Application scalability
    • normal and heavy-duty ratings
    • expandable I/O and sensor capability
    • network integration capabilities
  • Switch, LCD, or PC software setup for flexible programming
  • Optional external bypass

The 20-COMM DPI communication modules let you connect the SMC-50 soft starter to multiple networks, including DeviceNet™, EtherNet/IP™, Modbus, and Profibus. Three hardware expansion ports let you expand the digital and analog I/O and add an optimal protection module (PTC, ground fault, and current feedback).

Bulletin 150 Enclosed SMC-50 Soft Starter Completes the Enclosed SMC Product Family

The Enclosed SMC family of soft starters is available as non-combination, combination fusible disconnect, or combination circuit breakers. They can be fully customized using a variety of options and are pre-engineered for quick factory lead times. This family of starters is also available through the Modified Standards program. Features include:

  • Reduced voltage/current spikes and line disturbances
  • Simplified compliance with electrical codes

Water Pump

The SMC-50 soft starters use new soft start technology to provide torque and speed control for starting centrifugal pumps and high-inertia loads. Through proprietary sensorless speed sensing and motor control algorithms, the SMC-50 soft starter can deliver even smoother pump starts and stops than was possible with previous pump-control methods.

Rock Crusher

The SMC-50 soft starters deliver improved performance on high inertia loads such as rock crushers through linear acceleration technology and torque control. Limiting peak current and torque shock yields consistent starting performances. Through advanced control and monitoring uptime is maximized and the need for system maintenance is reduced.

Band Saw

The SMC-50 soft starters minimize starting peak current and torque shock to the system. Slow speed operation enables inspection of saw blade tracking before the motor is brought to full speed. The Smart Motor Braking option enables the system to stop in a fraction of the time of a coast stop.

Compression Tank

The SMC-50 soft starters use linear start technology which is ideal for both high and low pressure applications such as those found in compression tanks. This soft starter also has an energy saver mode which optimizes energy usage when running lightly loaded motors.
